Vesterålen - The kingdom of whales

The Northern Lights appear with the advent of the dark season. Breathtakingly beautiful colors shimmer across the sky and create a bewitching atmosphere. Steep snow-covered mountains are reflected on the ocean surface, along with the sparkling colors from heavens. In spring the rocky mountains of the islands turn green, and we call Vesterålen “the green Alps”. In summer we have 24-hours of daylight and you may experience the amazing Midnight Sun. In the middle of this paradise you will find whales! Close to the ocean giants like orca, sperm whales, pilot whales, humpback whales and fin whales you will get a memory for life!

The guide will present local history along the route from Sortland to Andenes. On the first tour we arrive at the Whale Centre for a guided tour around the exhibition, providing basic knowledge about the biology of the whales, their function in the eco-system and assertive research. We then board the safari vessel and go out to search for whales. Hot soup and coffe/tea will be served.
