News from Oslo - The Viking Capital of Norway

Photos:  Monika Regozinska

The Norwegian National Opera - On April 12th 2008, the official opening of the Opera House in Bjørvika took place - a magnificent building that has changed the face of Oslo!  "The new Opera House will be a transition between the densest part of the city centre and the open fjord; erected in white Italian marble and with big open windows, it will give people the opportunity to look in and have a view out. The thoughts will be led to nature and ice - culture and experience. The attention will be drawn to this unique white house in the sea - from the air, the sea, the railway and the main roads - the most important gateways to Oslo."

The roof landscape will be open to the public. The horizontal and sloping roofs express monumentality and give the building a dramatically different appearance from its neighbours. The glass surface covers 450 square metres and on the wall facing south, Norway's biggest solar panel is integrated in the glass. The expression of openness and accessibility both indoors and out will result in the building appealing to a wide range of users.

Inside the building, one of the world's most beautiful and technologically advanced opera halls is to be found. The centrepiece of the main theatre is Norway's largest chandelier produced by Hadeland Glass works. The unique chandelier consists of 5800 pieces of glass and was designed to achieve optimum acoustics. A warm welcome to the new pride of Norway in Bjørvika!

News from Eidfjord - Hardanger - The Fjord and Mountain Adventure

EIDFJORD OFFERS NOx MEASUREMENT AND REDUCTION !
The port of Eidfjord collaborates with a Norwegian engineering company which measures the level of  diesel engine emissions. Their instruments are based on measurement principles approved by ISO, CIMAC and the Norwegian Maritime Directorate (NMD). They report the number of kilos of NOx per ton of fuel providing the basis of the NMD-calculation of NOx-taxes paid by ships operating along the Norwegian coast.  Experience shows that the actual figures are up to 50% below the standard values which form the basis of the present NOx tax! Ships calling at Eidfjord will have the opportunity to have their emissions measured.

The engineering company also offers the distribution and installation of NOx-reducing equipment. These emulsifying systems might reduce NOx by some 30%.  A combination of emulsifying systems and EGR reduces NOx emissions by about 60%. Contact: helge@visiteidfjord.no
