STAVANGER - The shortcut to the Norwegian fjords
Located in the south-western corner of Norway, the Stavanger region is indeed the shortcut to the Norwegian fjords. Nothing is far away, and cruise ships dock in the very city centre, near the oldest part of the town, Old Stavanger. Just a short stroll away is the lovely Stavanger Cathedral, and the charming city centre with its cobbled pedestrian streets. The landscape in the region varies between fjords, beaches and steep mountains. The Lysefjord and the iconic Preikestolen (the Pulpit Rock) are just an hour’s boat trip away from the city. The Stavanger region was where Norway once became united into one kingdom in the famous Viking battle that took place in Hafrsfjord in 872 AD. The city is furthermore rich on cultural experiences, having been the European Capital of Culture in 2008.
